Happy Monday Snow Bunnies!

Open Face Sandwich

I hope you survived (are surviving) the blizzard. In Pittsburgh we received a nice dumping of snow but nothing compared to our friends in the DMV  (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area. At our house we measured 7 inches after all the snow fell. It has certainly been the most significant snowfall of the year. As a Pittsburgher I can say that this was not the most snow I have seen and not even my first blizzard. However, I loved seeing the pictures on Facebook and Instagram of all the snow and how people were taking the time to enjoy it. We tried to take Mr. JD out in the snow and he pranced for about two minutes before deciding he was over it and just sat down. I eventually picked him up and carried him home, he was extremely grateful to be back in the warm house and immediately cuddled up on my lap. He’s such a Mama’s Boy.

We saw lots of sled riding and winter fun happening in our neighborhood. We live on a hill (ahem, all of Pittsburgh is a hill) which turned out to be the best sledding anyone could ask for. Mr. JD and I sat in the reading room watching our neighbors zip down the hill with their children (or without). Mr. JD was very intrigued by the sledding and I think part of him wanted to join in. I watched the sledding and thought back to when we were kids. We lived for those snowy days when Acorn Hill was primed for the best sledding and every kid in the neighborhood sprinted out of bed to put on their snow gear and grab their sled. There are several pictures of me bundled up to my nose, sitting in a sled or falling out of a sled. There are some of me in a sled with 2 other people, miraculously making it to the bottom of the hill in once piece.

This is what a snow day was all about. We learned the ins and outs of that little mountain, we knew exactly where to place our sled that would ensure we hit the bump at the bottom that sent us flying in to the air. Usually, we walked home cold, wet, and with a bruised bum but it was so completely worth it! It was like we were training to be bobsledders. We had moves and methods that might have made future Olympians jealous. We owned the hill!

I really can’t wait for us to have little babies that we can take sledding. I hope we always live a walking distance away from a little mountain so that they can take full advantage of every snow day. I’ll make sure they are bundled up to their nose and unable to move let alone walk. We’ll take on the hill until exhaustion sets in. It will make everything yucky and unpleasant about winter worth it.

If you are still snowed in I hope you get out there and enjoy the day. Take on the mountain for me! For those of us back to work I guess we can start thinking about how we’ll take advantage of the next snow day.
