Tropical Deck Oasis

Ok, I am not claiming to be the next Joanna Gaines or anything here but I have all this extra time on my hands and you know…Pinterest!

If you follow me on IG then you have already seen these photos but I thought I would do a quick recap on how I pulled this little space together. When it comes to backyards, decks, porches, and patios, we hit the jackpot with this house. We have all of the above! I never really knew what to do with our front porch and back deck. We essentially used them for storage and the occasional plant or whimsical door mat.

The deck before it was put to better use!

I realized that I could do more with this space and create some place where we could just take a breather or enjoy a cocktail or two, maybe even some light snacks! The idea was just create a space where we could just walk out the back door and take in some fresh air without having to take too many steps ha!

The deck was actually starting to show some ware and tear in a few places so the timing was perfect to give it a bit of a facelift. We had to replace one of the railings and the stairs due to water damage and improper treatment. We also slapped on a fresh coat of stain and paint to make it look brand new.

Some of what we used we already had just in other places and not being utilized much so we put it to good use here. This included the love seat, cushions, and pillows. The item that probably gave me the most stress was the rug. I really have the hardest time picking out rugs for any room, why is it so difficult? I was trying to pull from some of the other designs and colors and decided doing something neutral with a geometric design would be the way to go. Can I just tell you, I LOVE THIS RUG!! I really do and I will say it was worth the countless searches on Amazon to find it!

The plants brought home the tropical vibe (palm and hibiscus) and throw in a few fun lanterns and succulents and we can call it a day!

This space really has been a nice little oasis for us this summer and each of us has enjoyed taking a break on the love seat to enjoy a summer treat or unwind after the bebe has gone to bed. I hope we can continue to get some good use before the winter arrives!

If you are looking to create a similar space here is a list to get you started:

  • Love Seat Frame – this one is similar
  • Love Seat Cushions – this one would work
  • Accent Pillows – Something similar found here (I actually like this one and might have to pick it up!)
  • Rug – Love it!
  • Side Table – this is the one
  • Lanterns – I bought two of these and two of these
